Turkish Journalists Association (TGC) and Confederation of Revolutionist Trade Unions of Turkey (DISK) Press-Labour made a statement on the journalists working for Habertürk, who were targeted by the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP). In the statement, TGC pointed out that the political attitude targeting journalists and considers reporting news as a crime moved onto a period of inventing new crimes, which will be recorded in the history of law. “We invite the ruling power and its partners to abide by the law,” the organisations have stated. The Press-Labour organisation further added, “They don’t want anyone to criticise them, nobody to speak or even think. They only want people to believe what they say. AKP’s records on press freedom is full of unemployment, shut-downs, preventions, censorship, lawsuit, imprisonment and detainments. In the meantime, the press organisations sometimes faced ad bans and other forceful applications.”
