Boğaziçi University units compiled the damage in the university as well as the academic, ethical violations as well as freedom of expression violations happening at the university since the appointment of Melih Bulu as rector to the university with a 40-article “Damage Report.” The academic, ethical violations and the violations of freedom of expression shared with the hashtag #BoğaziçiHasarRapor are as following:
- A non-elected rector was appointed to the university.
- Two new faculties were established in one night.
- A dean was appointed to the faculty of law, that was established in one night, from outside.
- The appointed rector became the dean of the faculty of communications that was established in one night.
- The LGBTI+ student club was shut down.
- The women’s studies student club members were prevented from entering their room.
- The office to prevent sexual harassment was effectively shut down.
- The elected social sciences institute director was not appointed.
- The elected natural sciences institute director was not appointed.
- The appointed administration used repeating votes in the senate.
- A representative was appointed to the faculty of law that was established in one night from outside.
- A director was appointed to the foreign languages institute without consulting other university bodies.
- Many civil police officers are present in the campuses.
- The campuses are under police blockade.
- More CCTV cameras are being placed in the campuses every day.
- Police raids were organised against the homes of students.
- The police are allowed on the campuses.
- Students were detained.
- Students were arrested.
- Part time, retired professors and guests are not allowed in the campus.
- The university alumni are not allowed in the campus.
- Disciplinary investigations were opened against students with made-up charges.
- One student was beaten at the police station.
- Student activities are being prevented, using force.
- The university’s principle of social gender equality is being violated.
- The university employees are being excluded based on their identities.
- Public resources are being exhausted.
- The university’s tradition of non-violent communication and language is being damaged.
- The university is being represented in a way that is against its principles and its reputation is being damaged.
- The tradition of democratic administration is being damaged.
- The university is attempted to be administered by procuration.
- Democratic elections at the university were suspended.
- Security guards are applying psychological and physical violence against students.
- The right to benefit from the safety of labour is being violated.
- Speech like, “Boğaziçi is creating science now” disregards the reputation of university studies.
- The right to information is being prevented.
- Academics and students are being targeted.
