Wushu sportsman Sadık Pehlivan stated that Wushu Federation Deputy Chairman Abdurrahman Akyüz didn’t allow him to join the national team because he was an Alevi. The 25-year-old sportsman has been a Turkey Champion for six times, with other international records and filed a criminal complaint against Akyüz at Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. Pehlivan indicated that he earned the right to go to the World Championship, but wasn’t taken there. “I was forced to pray five times a day in the national team camps, even though I am an Alevi. One day, Akyüz insulted me because I was late for a morning prayer and said, ‘You are an infidel. You’ll be a bad example for others.’ He was constantly insulting me because of my religion.,” Pehlivan said.
