Journalist Aslıhan Gençay is facing both a lawsuit for “insult” and an investigation for “publicly disseminating misleading information” due to her news article titled “The Names in Falyalı’s Tapes” published on P24, which was banned from access. In the indictment prepared upon the criminal complaint of Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, it was stated that Gençay’s sharing of a quote on social media was considered “insulting”. The Ankara 78th Criminal Court of First Instance scheduled the first hearing of the case for January 22, 2026. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office also launched a second investigation under the “Censorship Law” for the same news article. “I want to be silenced with successive investigations, but I stand by my news,” Gençay said.
