The Istanbul 27th Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced Selahattin Demirtaş’s lawyer, Ramazan Demir, to 7 months and 15 days in prison on February 24, 2026, for social media posts made between 2013 and 2015. The court convicted Demir under Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code for “insulting the Turkish nation, the Republic of Turkey, and its institutions.” Demir said his posts were related to human rights violations during the curfew period and announced that he would appeal the decision. Demir had previously been sentenced to 11 years and 3 months in prison in another case.
