Istanbul 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced journalist Melisa Gülbaş to a judicial fine of 7,80 TL and deferred the announcement of the verdict on the charge of “insulting a public official” in a case based on a news article on Boğaziçi University TETAM published in Gerçek Gündem on December 18, 2023. In the fourth hearing, the prosecutor repeated his previous opinion; the court rejected the defense’s request for more time. In the lawsuit filed upon the petition of the complainant academic Mehmet Turan, Gülbaş’s lawyer had asked for acquittal, stating that the basis of the news was public posts.
