A disciplinary penalty was imposed on İsmibey Güşeli, a Turkish Language and Literature teacher at Istanbul Avcılar Firüzköy Anatolian High School, on the grounds that he brought Agos and Evrensel newspapers to the teachers’ lounge and used laudatory statements about certain political figures and religious groups. As a result of the investigation, the Provincial Directorate of National Education imposed a one-year suspension of promotion and a salary deduction penalty on Güşeli. Güşeli was transferred to Küçükçekmece Kadriye Moroğlu Anatolian High School. Güşeli filed a lawsuit with the Istanbul Governor’s Office for the cancellation of the disciplinary penalties and the change of his place of work. The Administrative Court rejected the request to suspend the execution. It was reported that the case is under appeal review.
