Five young people who protested a seven-day power outage in the Kumçatı town of Şırnak were detained in raids on their homes. Gendarmerie detained the young people, who were reported to be around 18 years old, on charges of “damaging public property” and “resisting to prevent the performance of duty.” After giving statements at the gendarmerie station, they were referred to the Şırnak Courthouse. It was alleged that the outage in the town, which has a population of about 15,000, was imposed because residents opposed DEDAŞ moving electricity meters onto utility poles. The outages negatively affected daily life, and some families did not send their children to school for two days. In Atatürk Neighborhood, a child was injured after falling into a pot of hot water that the family had boiled over a wood fire for washing. After receiving first aid at Şırnak State Hospital, the child was transferred to Diyarbakır for treatment.
