The İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office issued detention orders for 48 people as part of an investigation into purchases of goods and services during the previous term at Bayraklı Municipality. Police detained 47 people in the operation. Those detained included former Bayraklı Mayor Serdar Sandal, former CHP Provincial Youth Branch Chair Berk Ulusal, and İzmir Metropolitan and Bayraklı municipal council member Cengiz Sarıoğlu. Proceedings were initiated against municipal staff involved in purchases of goods and services, officials from the period, and owners and executives of companies alleged to have received duplicate payments.
