Journalist and DİSK Basın-İş Disciplinary Board member Derya Okatan was detained at her home in Ankara, taken to Istanbul Çağlayan Courthouse and arrested by a criminal judgeship of peace. DİSK Basın-İş said the prosecutor requested Okatan’s arrest without taking her statement. The union criticized the detention and arrest of journalists because of their professional activities and said the decision was part of pressure on press and freedom of expression. DİSK Basın-İş called for Okatan’s immediate release and said it would continue defending journalistic activity.
