Bitlis 2nd High Criminal Court sentenced Kurdish artist Cesim Başboğa to 10 months in prison on a charge of “making propaganda for an organization” over Kurdish songs he performed at the Culture and Arts Festival held in Tatvan in 2025. In the case filed on 3 June, prosecutors cited the songs “Serhildan jiyan ê,” “Lê Amedê” and “Zana û Andok” performed by Başboğa at the festival as evidence. At the second hearing on 6 October, the court sentenced the artist to 10 months in prison. Başboğa said punishing artists who made music in their mother tongue at a time when peace was being discussed harmed the peace process.
