Police detained 10 people in simultaneous operations on 1 October in Istanbul, Ankara, Antalya, Bursa, Kocaeli, Muğla, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Malatya and Elazığ as part of an investigation by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. Prosecutors investigated social media users on allegations that they made broadcasts on TikTok, Instagram and X involving fights, threats and insults that were “contrary to the Turkish family structure” and acted together to earn income from those broadcasts. The suspects were charged with “inciting the public to hatred and hostility or degrading the public” and “obscenity.” Detainees Sinan Kaya, Cansum Kaya, Ferhat Billor, Çağlayan Yıldırım, Onur Sermik, Elif Akdemir, Onur Can Güzel, Mehmet Emin Citer, Mehmet Aden Arslan and Semih Varol underwent tests to determine drug or stimulant use.
