The release of nine political prisoners who completed their sentences at Ankara Sincan Women’s Closed Prison was postponed a total of 36 times since 2021 by decisions of the Administration and Observation Board. Nedime Yaklav’s release was postponed six times; those of Hicran Binici, Nuriye Adet and Devrim Adet five times each; Zeliha Ustabaş four times; Melike Göksü, Emine Abiş and Fatma Aslan three times each; and Pınar Tikit twice. The boards cited assessments of good conduct, remorse and political views in their postponement decisions. DEM Party Dersim MP Ayten Kordu said the boards exceeded their authority by acting like a second judicial mechanism and engaged in arbitrary practices particularly against women prisoners. DEM Party Deputy Co-Chair Yüksel Mutlu said postponing releases undermined public confidence in the Peace and Democratic Society Process. Kordu and Mutlu called on the Ministry of Justice to review the practices and end the postponements.
