The Human Rights Defenders Solidarity Network issued a statement on February 13 regarding the lawsuit filed against Defne Güzel, Chair of the Board of Directors of the May 17 Association. The statement noted that the lawsuit, filed on the grounds that a book and exhibition catalog prepared on intersex rights were “contrary to public morality,” targeted freedom of expression and association. It was reported that the first hearing would be held on May 12 at the Ankara 74th Criminal Court of First Instance. The Network criticized the continuation of the lawsuit despite expert reports confirming that the activities were in compliance with the law and demanded that the judicial process be terminated.
