According to the data shared by Republican People’s Party (CHP) Istanbul MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu at the Parliament for December 10, World Human Rights Day, 1389 incidents of torture were recorded in the first 11 months of 2019. Tanrıkulu indicated that there is a significant increase in the number of lawsuits due to “resisting the police” in order to hide the crime of torture by the police. “Investigations were started against 163 thousand people due to ‘resisting the police’ in 2018, with lawsuits eventually filed against 46 thousand of them. Extraordinarily, this number has increased during the AKP rule, there is none before. With fake summaries of ‘resisting the police,’ torture crimes are attempted to be hidden,” Tanrıkulu stated.
