N.K., a textile worker who opened a banner reading “AK Party is the cause, inflation is the result” and threw his cell phone on the platform during AKP President Erdoğan’s speech at the opening of Bağcılar Maternity and Children’s Hospital, was released after 171 days.
Istanbul 28th High Criminal Court sentenced N.K. to 4 years and 2 months in prison for “actual assault against the President” but released him with a travel ban.
N.K., who was acquitted of “insulting the President” in a separate case, said that she wanted to make her voice heard due to the economic crisis.
The investigation into the allegation of “membership in an armed terrorist organization” ended in non-prosecution.
