Co-Editor-In-Chief of previously shut-down Özgür Gündem Daily, Hüseyin Aykol is celebrating his 64th birthday in prison. Turkish Journalists Union (TGS) started a campaign for solidarity with the journalist on September 15th, Aykol’s birthday, asking from its members and followers to send books, letters or postcards for the journalist in prison as a gift. In January 2018, Aykol has been sentenced to 3 years and nine months of imprisonment due to “making illegal organisation propaganda.” He is imprisoned at Sincan Type-F Prison No.2 since July 12, 2019.
