Rights organisations made a common press statement on the 39th anniversary of the September 12 coup in front of the Turkish Radio and Television Association (TRT) Radio building in Harbiye, where the coup was announced at 3 in the morning. “We say no to September 12, to the State of Emergency that was a continuation of it, as well as all legal regulations today that make the State of Emergency and September 12 permanent, together with all government policies.” The statement was made as a common declaration by the Human Rights Association (IHD) Istanbul, Social Democracy Foundation (SODEV), Association for Solidarity and Support for Relatives of Disappeared Persons (YAKAY-DER), Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (TIHV), 78s Generation Initiative, Animal Rights Monitoring Committee (HAKIM), Solidarity Union for Retired Persons, Rights Initiative Association Istanbul Representative and pointed out that the coup Constitution is still effective and that the State of Emergency, declared following the coup attempt in 2016 and lasted for two years, has strengthened the effects of September 12 even more.
