During the first hearing of the trial of 19 young people who are on trial for participating in the “Standing Man” protest in Taksim on the 12th anniversary of the Gezi Park protests, there was a robe controversy. When the judge refused to wear a robe, defendant lawyers reacted. After a short while, the judge put on his robe and said, “It’s 2025, I can wear a wig if you want.”
The defendants applauded when the lawyers acted out the “Standing Man” protest. The judge warned the lawyers, saying, “We are not doing a talk show.” The court lifted the judicial control measures of the defendants and warned the lawyers for “disrupting the order of the hearing”.
