Dr. Barış Kaya, a general surgery resident physician who was arrested after being detained during a sit-in protest in front of the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate, announced in a letter sent from Marmara L Type Prison No. 2 that he will go on a 15-day hunger strike starting July 1. For three months, neither an indictment nor a review of the detention of Dr. Kaya and Seda Kaya, a nurse who was arrested with him, has been prepared. Stating that they stand in solidarity with political prisoners against the severe isolation in S, R, Y type “well prisons”, Kaya stated that she cannot remain silent against torture as a physician.
