As protests continue against trustee assignments to Mardin, Van and Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipalities, press statements to be organised in Istanbul, Izmir, Adana and Gaziantep were prevented by the police. The police attacked protests in Ankara and Istanbul, detaining many people. The police further intervened People’s Democratic Party (HDP) MPs and members in Izmir, preventing them from holding a press statement. Three MPs, taken under police blockade, made the press statement inside the police circle. HDP members attempted to hold a sit-in protest after an event they attended in Adana. However, the police shut the doors of the event hall, stating that a press statement is banned and therefore exits will not be allowed. The press statement in Gaziantep was prevented due to the protest ban declared by the Governorate.
