Bianet editor Tuğçe Yılmaz is on trial under Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code for her interview with two Armenian youth on April 24, 2024. Yılmaz, who was detained yesterday in Kadıköy without giving any reason, spent the night at the police station. In his statement to the prosecutor at the Çağlayan Courthouse, he stated that he had reported the story within the framework of journalism and that he had not targeted any person or institution. His lawyers argued that the lawsuit was out of time and procedure, citing the Press Law. Yılmaz was unlawfully detained despite being a journalist with a weekly signature obligation.
