The prosecutor’s office prepared a new indictment against journalist Abdurrahman Gök for photographing Kemal Kurkut, who was killed by a police bullet at the Diyarbakır Newroz in 2017. Based on the statements of secret witness “K8Ç4B3L1T5”, the prosecutor claimed that Gök made “illegal organization propaganda” by photographing the moment Kurkut was “neutralized”. The indictment is reportedly the fourth case against Gök for the same photographs and his professional activities. Gök was sentenced to 1 year, 6 months and 22 days in prison for “propaganda” in 2017 after a house raid and the case went to the Court of Cassation; similar charges were brought against him in the investigations in which he was detained and arrested in 2018 and 2023. Prosecutor’s Office sends new indictment to Diyarbakır 5th High Criminal Court with a request to merge it with the existing file; hearing to be held on November 25.
