Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan and Deputy Mayor Süleyman Can were arrested on February 28, 2026, on charges of “extortion” as part of an ongoing investigation. The investigation is based on allegations that the municipality forced several chain stores to sign advertising contracts with a company affiliated with the municipality. Of the 13 people detained in the case, one was placed under house arrest, while 10 others were placed under judicial supervision.
