In the Gümüşhacıköy district of Amasya, the District Directorate of National Education blocked the May 24 performance of the play “Âşık Mahsuni Şerif” on May 22. The directorate cited the play’s inclusion of topics such as Deniz Gezmiş, the Maraş Massacre, and the Madımak Massacre as the reason for the ban. EMEP MP İskender Bayhan brought the decision to the parliamentary agenda and characterized it as censorship.
