The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into CHP Chairman Özgür Özel over remarks he made at a rally in Burdur titled “Standing Up for the Will of the People.” The prosecutor’s office initiated proceedings against Özel for “publicly insulting a public official in connection with their duties” over his use of the phrase “lowlife men” in his speech. Özel used the phrase in question while criticizing a lawsuit filed against Ekrem İmamoğlu at the rally.
