The second day of the trial of 110 people, mostly young people and students, who were charged for participating in the March 19 Saraçhane protests that started after Ekrem İmamoğlu’s diploma was revoked and he was arrested, has been completed.
The trial was held at Istanbul 61st Criminal Court of First Instance, and due to the lack of a courtroom, the hearings were held at the 20th Commercial Court of First Instance. The defendants and their lawyers pointed out that the indictment contains **errors in terms of time and place**.
One student said that the photograph presented in the indictment as dated March 26 was actually taken earlier in front of his school and that he was in detention on that date. Lawyer Ezgi Önalan reacted to the deficiencies in the indictment, saying, “The police did a sloppy job and the prosecutor did not bother.”
The defendants are charged with “participating in unlawful meetings and marches without weapons and not dispersing spontaneously despite a warning”.
The court decided to continue the hearing tomorrow in order to complete the defenses and adjourned the main hearing to **31 October 2025**.
