Two more people were arrested in the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office money laundering investigation into individuals including members of the Sarıgül family. Prosecutors alleged that large amounts of money of unclear origin were laundered through companies established in Türkiye and abroad. Procedures were completed for eight people who had been detained and referred to the courthouse as part of the investigation. The criminal judgeship of peace ordered the arrest of Zülfü Sümer and Abdulkadir Sezgin and released Müge Bayır, Gökcen Bayır, Yusuf Demir, Elif Keskinel Ülker, Hatice Kübra Arat and Hasan Hişim under judicial control. The number of people arrested in the investigation, including Mustafa Sarıgül’s sons and his former wife Aylin Kotil, thus rose to 24. Efforts continued to locate two people for whom detention orders had been issued. According to journalist Muratcan Altuntoprak, youth camps organized during Mustafa Sarıgül’s term as Şişli mayor were also added to the investigation file. Zülfü Sümer and Abdulkadir Sezgin, who were arrested, were reported to have been among those responsible for the youth camps during that period.
