Police carried out simultaneous operations against Mersin Metropolitan Municipality and Yenişehir and Mezitli municipalities as part of an investigation by the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office into tenders and direct procurement procedures. Fifty-nine people were detained, including Mersin Metropolitan Mayor Vahap Seçer, Yenişehir Mayor Abdullah Özyiğit and Mezitli Mayor Ahmet Serkan Tuncer. Police also searched Seçer’s home. Prosecutors alleged public losses of 1,010,914,000 TL at Mezitli Municipality and 105 million TL at Yenişehir Municipality. A separate investigation was also conducted into Mezitli Mayor Tuncer over allegations that he had armed attacks carried out against the workplaces of people with whom he had disputes. The investigation alleged that the Yeni Parti Provincial Organization building and Çağın Medya were among the targets of the attacks.
