A case was filed against journalist Bircan Değirmenci on a charge of “making propaganda for an organization in a successive manner” over four posts she made on X in 2015. The Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office cited images of armed people and flags and symbols considered to belong to the organization in the posts as grounds for the charge. At the first hearing before Diyarbakır 4th High Criminal Court on 2 September, Değirmenci acknowledged making the posts but denied the charge of organization propaganda. She said she had worked as a journalist for about 30 years and intended to inform the public through the posts. Her lawyer Orhan Sıcakyüz sought acquittal, arguing that the posts had been taken out of context. The court added investigation records and responses from the police to the file. The prosecution requested Değirmenci’s punishment. The court adjourned the hearing until 20 October 2026 to allow preparation of a defense on the merits.
