Members of the executive and supervisory boards of the Kaos GL Association, along with many LGBTI+ activists, were detained as part of an investigation by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on charges of “obscenity” and “violation of the Law on Associations.” Search, seizure and digital examination orders were issued for 26 people, and 21 people were detained. Police searched the association’s office and the suspects’ homes and seized digital materials. Content published on Kaos GL’s website and social media accounts was cited as the basis for the “obscenity” charge. Justice Minister Akın Gürlek said that, on the same day, action was taken against 162 people, 9 associations and 13 businesses in operations carried out in 15 provinces under the name “My Family Is Safe,” centered in Istanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Aydın and Mersin.
