In the Kızıltepe district of Mardin, following a march held on February 1 as part of Rojava Solidarity Day, numerous young people chanting slogans in the streets were beaten and detained by police. During the intervention that followed the march, which was attended by tens of thousands of people, footage captured police officers pinning young people to the ground and pressing down on their throats. The footage showed numerous police officers surrounding a young man lying on the ground and shouting as they carried out the arrest. The violence used during the intervention drew public outrage.
