A banner reading “Jin Jiyan Azadi” hung on the municipal building in Van’s İpekyolu district was taken down on the instructions of the prosecutor’s office. In a statement issued by the municipality, it was stated that the banner was hung to draw attention to the massacres of women in Rojava. It was stated that the police removed the banner after receiving verbal instructions from the prosecutor’s office. İpekyolu Co-Mayor Canan Uzunay announced that the banner would not be removed voluntarily but was confiscated by the police. Municipal officials stated that the action constituted an interference with the right to democratic protest.
