Debates on the matter continues after the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) verdict on the release of Selahattin Demirtaş and Erdoğan’s following statement, “It doesn’t bind us.” In the meantime, Doğruluk Payı launched the records of Turkey at the ECtHR.
There has been 2286 cases against Turkey so far at the ECtHR. In 2988 cases, the court decided at least one article was violated; with 77 cases concluding without verdicts of violation. Turkey paid a total of 107 million 514 thousand 212 TL of compensation in the last five years due to the verdicts of violation.
The distribution of those verdicts according to the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) articles is as following:
878 times violation of “the right to fair trial,” 726 times violation of “the right to freedom and security,” 419 times violation of “the right to effective investigation,” 281 times violation of “freedom of expression,” 272 times violation of “the right to effective application” and 347 times violation of “the torture and maltreatment ban.”
