The appeal against the detention of writer Nur Betül Aras, who was arrested for her social media post reacting to the police blockade in front of the CHP Istanbul Provincial Directorate building, was rejected. Young Lawyers’ Assembly Chair Şeyma Eren stated that Aras, who is being held in Silivri Prison, is fine, but the separation from her 8-year-old daughter was not taken into consideration. Eren emphasized that the detention was “unnecessary” legally, while Aras sent a note from prison saying “Silivri is just a stop, I have a road to walk with my daughter. I know this road will lead to freedom.” Lawyers demanded that the indictment be prepared immediately and Aras be released.
