In the trial of journalist Nurcan Yalçın on charges of “knowingly and willingly aiding an illegal organization” and “violating the law on the prevention of financing terrorism”, it was decided to hear journalist Kibriye Evren as a witness again.
Yalçın did not attend the hearing at Diyarbakır 9th High Criminal Court, while his lawyer Resul Tamur was present. Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG) and Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA) monitored the hearing.
The court lifted Yalçın’s signing obligation and ruled for the continuation of his travel ban. The court decided to hear witness Kibriye Evren and adjourned the hearing to October 7.
Yalçın was investigated in 2020 for her activities at the Rosa Women’s Association and her journalistic work at JINNEWS. Some of his previous prison sentences of 2 years and 1 month and 1 year, 6 months and 22 days were overturned by the Court of Appeal. In addition, a new case was opened on charges of “financing terrorism” for depositing 400 TL into the account of a roommate prisoner and the files were merged.
