Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Rectorate did not allow the activities to be organized by three different student clubs.
The Rectorate laid down the condition that speaker academics Sungur Savran and ITU graduate architect Mücella Yapıcı to be removed from the programmes in the event, “Workers’ Health and Safety in Turkey” organized by Work Safety Club and the event, “The Social Issues of Engineering and Architecture” organized by the Social Sciences Club. On the other hand, the fourth “Talks with the Alumni” to be organized by the Mechanical Engineering Club was cancelled upon a Rectorate order without showing a reason. The student clubs made separate statements, protesting the decisions of the Rectorate. “There is censorship at ITU,” said the students.
