Warrant against two journalists

An investigation was opened against Artı TV employee Mücahit Avras due to the news he covered and his social media posts on Afrin. A warrant was issued against the journalist within the investigation. Former editor of Özgürlükçü Demokrasi Newspaper, Gülşen Koçuk was taken into custody in Darıca district of Kocaeli. It was later revealed that Koçuk was taken into custody due to a warrant against her.

“I can’t say I’m surprised with this warrant in an environment where more than 150 press organizations are shut down by the AKP government, about 200 journalists are kept in prisons, investigations are conducted against hundreds of them, opposition media is attempted to be suffocated, about 3000 journalists already left unemployed and many journalists are prevented from travelling abroad by confiscating their passports. However, I also know that one must not be silent during a period where press freedom is being stumped upon. I have never formed a sentence praising violence in any of my social media posts. If it is a crime to say ‘no’ to war, then we will continue committing that crime,” stated Avras.
