In the Zaman newspaper trial, the prosecutor presented his final opinion on the case against journalists Mehmet Kamış and Ali Çolak. The prosecutor demanded the acquittal of Çolak and Kamış on charges of “attempting to overthrow the Turkish Grand National Assembly”, “attempting to overthrow the constitutional order” and “attempting to overthrow the government”. However, the court acquitted Çolak and sentenced Kamış on the charge of “membership in an illegal organization”. The next hearing of the case will be held on September 23, 2025 at Istanbul 26th High Criminal Court.
