University students and political groups protested against the minimum wage being set below the poverty line on December 23 in the Taksim and Istiklal Avenue areas. Police blocked the Student Activity march to Taksim and detained approximately 20 university students during the intervention. At the same time, police also intervened in a protest by members of the Red Party in Taksim Square, detaining five people. Protesters stated that the minimum wage and student grants did not meet their living conditions.
