Physician Dr. Güle Çınar stated in the in-house meeting on Coronavirus at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine İbni Sina Hospital that the Coronavirus cases exceeded one thousand. The institution she is employed at forced Çınar to correct her statement and to apologise. After the physician became a target, Çınar was supported by colleagues, especially the Turkish Medical Association (TTB).
“The expressions of our colleague are not entirely baseless,” TTB stated and indicated that it is embarrassing that the physician was forced to apologise, as well as such oppression is against personal rights and an attack against employee rights. Istanbul Medical Chamber also supported the physician and stated, “We stand beside our colleague, who works day and night, loyal to her Hippocratic oath. If there’s someone to apologise, it’s these people who forced her to write this apology statement.”
In her speech, Çınar had told her colleagues that they should act however they will feel comfortable, but that they have to use the medical equipment very carefully because they had a bad start and don’t know how it will progress. She concluded with saying that they are hoping to not be like Italy. The physician indicated that everything was under control in the beginning but those arriving from umrah “destroyed” everything and that the number of cases reached thousands.
