Replying to the Parliamentary question posed by Republican People’s Party (CHP) Istanbul MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu on Wikipedia, which was banned to access two years ago by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s Strategy Development Chairmanship stated that negotiations continue with authorities from Wikipedia. The reply indicated that the related access ban on the online encyclopedia was due to “content that attempted to show Turkey in collaboration with terrorist organizations,” expressing that the content on the websites with access bans also can not be shared due to the information “may pose unjustified perception against the country on the international platform.” The reply claimed that the access ban brought against the website is in accordance with the Constitution, with the European Convention of Human Rights as well as with the United Nations International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
