The Istanbul 26th Criminal Court of First Instance accepted the indictment filed against journalist Alican Uludağ on April 1, 2026. The court ruled that it lacked jurisdiction because the defendant’s address and social media posts were based in Ankara, referred the case to the Ankara Criminal Court of First Instance, and ordered that he remain in custody. The lawyers requested the return of the indictment on the grounds that it had been filed with an incompetent court, but the court rejected this request. The court issued a contradictory ruling by both ruling on lack of jurisdiction and accepting the indictment.
