The 14th hearing of journalist Abdullah Kaya, who is on trial in Ağrı for his 2014 news reporting, was held on October 7. The court adjourned the hearing to November 18 without hearing Kaya’s testimony. Kaya is on trial on charges of “aiding an illegal organization without being a member of it” for covering the Ağrı Mountain Festival on September 3, 2014.
The journalist was released after six months in prison. In his statement after the hearing, Kaya said, “It is unacceptable to be on trial for 11 years for my journalistic activity during the peace process. Journalism is not a crime.” It is stated that the event, which Kaya followed with his permission, was within the knowledge of then Ağrı Governor Musa Işın and Interior Minister Efkan Ala.
