Intervention against families from Soma with tear gas

The march started by families of the miners, who reacted against the low penalties and ‘good conduct’ abatements issued in the Soma Massacre Case with 301 miners dead, ended in Ankara with a claim of “justice.”

The families attempted to make a statement in front of the Council of Judges and Prosecutors and faced police prevention. The police prevented the statement due to lack of permission, whereas the families discussed the matter by saying, “We came to search for our rights, not to cause trouble.” The families were pushed away with shields and were attacked with tear gas. Some of the families’ lawyers were attempted to be taken into custody.

The families, who lost their relatives in the mine disaster, later made a press statement after the intervention, together with MPs from the Republican People’s Party (CHP) and People’s Democratic Party (HDP), who arrived there for support. “440 children are growing without fathers… We want the price for this, we want to be governed with law. If we aren’t governed with law, then they should revoke the state of law. Justice was destroyed in this case,” the families stated.
