The court rejected the request of Mehmet Pehlivan, the lawyer of arrested CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, for the rejection of the judge and ruled for the continuation of his detention. Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance rejected the application on the grounds that the request did not comply with the legal grounds in the Criminal Procedure Code. Pehlivan’s lawyers argued that the place, time and nature of the charges were not disclosed and that his right to a fair trial was violated. The court, on the other hand, stated that judicial control was not deemed sufficient due to the evidence in the file, the nature of the crime, the possibility of escape and the fact that the evidence had not yet been collected. It is reported that Pehlivan and other suspects’ continued detention can be appealed within 2 weeks.
