Human Rights Association (IHD) Headquarters launched the “Hate Crimes in Turkey and Recent Racist Attacks Special Report.” The report indicated that one person in 2019 has died due to racist attacks and five people have died due to attacks against the LGBTIs; with 27 people wounded as a result of hate attacks against them. According to IHD data, 280 racist attacks have occurred in the last 10 years in total; 15 people were killed and 1097 people were wounded in these attacks.
The report stated that serious legal gaps emerge due to the lack of comprehensive legal regulations on hate crimes. It was further indicated that the increase in the attacks against a variety of groups, especially against Syrian refugees and Kurdish seasonal workers recently, is a result of the environment of “impunity.”
