On March 31, 2026, in Ankara, animal rights activists attempted to ask the mayor a question at an event organized by the Çankaya Municipality. A group affiliated with the CHP blocked the activists’ path, and during the ensuing altercation, the activists were beaten. Police removed the activists from in front of the municipality building. The activists later gathered on Yüksel Street to protest the deaths of animals in shelters.
