The Constitutional Court (AYM) issued a decree on the application of Zaman Daily writer Mümtazer Türköne, who was arrested on August 4, 2016 due to ‘aiding an armed terrorist organisation without being a member’ following the coup attempt. The high court decided that Türköne’s personal freedom and safety, as well as freedom of expression and press freedom were violated due to unjust arrest. However, the court found four allegations including the arrest exceeding reasonable time period limits ‘unacceptable’ due to ‘alternative remedies not having been exhausted.’
