The reasoned decree of acquittal issued for journalist-writer Nurcan Baysal, who was on trial due to making anti-war social media posts during the operation in Afrin, was announced.
Diyarbakır 7th Criminal Court of First Instance underlined, in the decree, that the posts of Baysal were within freedom of expression and thought. The summary judgement hearing of the lawsuit filed against Baysal has been held in February. The reasoned decree referred to precedents of the European Court of First Instance and indicated that everyone has the right to express their thoughts and opinion, in accordance with Article 26 of the Turkish Constitution, further reminding that many precedents of the ECHR stands not only for information and opinions that are socially accepted or deemed non-harmful, but also for those shocking and worrying.
